Archaeological investigation at Sumhuram: SUM14A

The first archaeological campaign of 2014 at Khor Rori has just started

Both archaeological investigation and architectural restoration are being carried out at the ancient site of Sumhuram.

Excavations are being focused on the residential area and on the main square of the city, in front of the temple of the god Syn. Excavations in those areas are aimed at reaching the most ancient layers in the stratification of the city. Furthermore they are expected to provide additional elements to understand the architectural layout of the city at the moment of its foundation.

Meanwhile, the northern side of the city walls and the imposing tower flanking the entrance to the city will be restored.

The results of the campaign will be made available soon after the end of the work, the same as the previous preliminary reports.
