Bilqis: the 4th issue is now online

The 4th issue of the magazine edited by the Yemen Embassy in Rome is available.

A great part of this issue is dedicate to the Hadramawt region.

Indeed the ancient port of Qani' is located in this region. The underwater exploration in the bay north of the Husn-al-Gurab, conducted in the 90s by the Missione Archeologica Italiana dell’Istituto per l’Africa e l’Oriente, revealed the importance of the harbor for the trade with the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean from the I to the VII century AD.

The charming city of Shibam is UNESCO World Heritage Site, because of its peculiar architecture made by monumental mud- brick buildings, including up to eight storeys.

Tarim, instead, is the place of the encounter between an Italian journalist and Alberto Moravia: the article reminds the travel of the Italian writer fascinated by Yemen.

Finally a trip in the fabulous archipelago of Socotra is the occasion to describe history, natural features, and people of the islands.

The path in the craft traditions of Yemen leads to discover the production of the jambia, the typical Yemeni sword, the beaten copper and pottery.

News about the memorandum of understanding signed by the Fishing District of Mazara del Vallo (Sicily), the Red Sea Authority and the Arabian Sea Authority, and the testimony of a young Yemeni girl studying restoration at the Istituto Veneto per i Beni Culturali (Venice) end the issue.
