16th Rencontres Sabéennes

The conference, planned from the 6th to the 9th June at Museo Nazionale di San Matteo in Pisa, has involved about 40 scholars, dealing with the history and culture of the Arabic peninsula in pre-Islamic time.
Four main topics have beeen discussed during the conference:
“The ancient history of Oman, research day” (6th June);
“Chronology of the first millennium BC in South Arabia” (7th June);
“New excavations and epigraphic researches in South Arabia” (8th-9th June);
“Pottery and trade in Sumhuram” (9th June, afternoon).
On 6th June, contemporary with the day dedicated to the history of Oman, the exhibition “Oman, the land of Sindbad the sailor” has been inaugurated, in the presence of HE Said Nasser Al-Harthy, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Italy.
HE Khalid Abdulrahman Al-Akwa, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to Italy, introduced the second day, focused on the chronology of the 1st millennium in Yemen.
